If you’ve ever been vacationing, but you left something really important at home, you know how stressful this situation can be. While some people just stuff their belongings in any available compartment of their luggage, others actually bring a separate travel accessories bag with them. One of the best ways to pack for a trip is to start making a list of things to bring with you about a week before departure, so you have time to add things on that you may have forgotten; then, when you pack a day or two before departure, cross each thing off the list as you pack it.

Here’s a list of ten things that you may forget, but that you don’t want to leave out of your travel accessories bag.

1)      Toiletry

When you’re stressing over things like what clothes to pack or what swimwear to bring on your trip, it’s easy to overlook the basics, such as your toiletry. Although hotels and beach houses often provide things like soap and shampoo, you might still like to bring your razors, shaving cream, or lotions in case you get sunburned.

There are also a wide range of bag accessories widely available, so just use common sense. Accessories bags are a must when travelling as well.

2)      In-flight entertainment

As oil prices soar, airline companies are cutting back on things like in-flight entertainment and even on-board lunches. If you’re flying on a plane, throw an iPod or a portable DVD player in your travel accessories bag. Unless you’re planning to sleep through the flight, it can save you from boredom, especially if you’ve got a long trip. And nothing can worsen your mood than coming to a vacation tired because you’ve been bored for the past 10 hours, flying on a plane with no entertainment.

3)      Blankets or pillows

If you’re a fan of Snuggies, or if you just have a favorite blanket at your house – equip your travel accessories bag with one. It can keep you warm on a cold plane flight. Plus, it’s always nice to bring your own pillow or some other cozy things to your home away from home.

4)      Photo and video cameras

Your memories are one of a kind. Cherish them through pictures and movies that can’t be replaced. If you’re a fan on photography, you’re not likely to forget this, but if you’re stressed out and don’t really take that many pictures anyways, you may regret forgetting it at home later.

5)      Laptop (if you have one)

Having a computer with you helps you store those photos and videos so you can free up your memory card space. That way, one big memory card will suffice an entire day’s activities, and you won’t need to lug multiple memory cards around. It’s a good thing, because you can lose them, and things like that cost a lot.

6)      Umbrellas

Not all forecasts are 100% correct. Even if the Weather channel says your trip should be all sunny, pack an umbrella in your travel accessories bag – just in case.

7)      Power plug adapters

If you’re going overseas, double check to see if the country you’re visiting uses the same power plugs as the ones your appliances have. If so – good; otherwise, your travel accessories bag could use some power plug adapters.

8)      Electronics’ chargers

Nothing sucks more than bringing your cellphone, but forgetting the charger at home.

9)      “Rainy day” clothes

Just because you rarely put your Timberlands on, and just because your raincoat’s collecting dust in the closet doesn’t mean you shouldn’t bring them just in case it rains!

10)  Sunscreen

It’s an essential part of any summer trip. Enough said.

Always double-check that you’ve got everything! A few forgotten things can add up to an overall bad trip. Let it happen to someone else – not you.
